David Sheppard
David Stuart Sheppard, Baron Sheppard of Liverpool (6 March 1929 – 5 March 2005) was a Church of England Bishop of Liverpool who played cricket for Sussex and England in his youth. Sheppard remains the only ordained minister to have played Test cricket, though others such as Tom Killick were ordained after playing Tests. Early life Sheppard was born in Reigate and brought up in Charlwood, Surrey. His father was a solicitor, and a cousin of Tubby Clayton, founder of Toc H; his mother was the daughter of the artist and illustrator, William James Affleck Shepherd (1866–1946). His family moved to Sussex after his father died in the late 1930s. He was educated at Northcliffe House School in Bognor Regis and then at Sherborne School, Dorset, where his cricketing talent first emerged. David John Shepherd (1936 – 1 October 2003) was an advertising executive and one of the few Englishmen to play for the Australia national rugby union team. David Shepherd was one of the rare men who graduated from club rugby in Melbourne through the Victorian state team to the ranks of the Wallabies. He played his first Test against New Zealand in 1964 and was capped four times more before a crippling injury forced his early retirement from the game. Early life Shepherd was born in Cheshire and boarded at Blundell's School in Devon. He was 17 when his father was sent to Australia in 1953 to become chairman of Unilever. David Robert Shepherd (27 December 1940 – 27 October 2009) was a first-class cricketer who played county cricket for Gloucestershire, and later became one of the cricket world's best-known umpires. He stood in 92 Test matches, the last of them in June 2005, the most for any English umpire. He also umpired 172 ODIs, including three consecutive World Cup finals in 1996, 1999 and 2003. Early life Shepherd was born in Bideford in Devon. His father Herbert was a sub- postmaster, having earlier worked in the Merchant Navy. His father had played cricket and rugby in his youth, and became an umpire for North Devon Cricket Club after losing the sight in one eye in the First World War. David Stanmore Shepherd (born 3 August 1956) is an Australian sportsman who played Victorian Football League football with St Kilda and cricket for Victoria. Shepherd was recruited to St Kilda from Brighton Grammar and played four senior games with the club, two in 1976 and another two in 1977. The only goal of his career was kicked in a game against South Melbourne. In the 1982–83 Australian cricket season he made his debut for Victoria in a one day match against the touring Sri Lankan cricket team. His 43 not out from the middle order guided his side a six wicket victory. Two weeks later he made his Sheffield Shield debut, managing scores of 17 and 2 in a loss to South Australia, his only first-class match. David Shepard (October 23, 1744 – December 12, 1818) was an American doctor, a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, a Minuteman, and surgeon in the Continental Army. Richard David Shepherd CBE FRSA FGRA (25 April 1931 – 19 September 2017) was a British artist and one of the world's most outspoken conservationists. He was most famous for his paintings of steam locomotives (he owned a number of them) and wildlife, although he also often painted aircraft, portraits (notably The Queen Mother) and landscapes. His work has been extremely popular since the 1960s in limited edition print reproduction and poster form, as well as other media such as Wedgwood limited edition plates.
